Don’t Give up Meeting Tue-gather (even virtually)

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:23-25

Another wonderful study completed this year for the teachers’ and parents’ Bible Study and prayer time at Great Commission Christian School. Pastor Jim Cymbala’s, Spirit Rising was excellent. For years, by the grace of God, the teachers of Great Commission have gathered weekly to read God’s Word and pray. It began on Thursdays but has been moved to Tuesday for several years now. In order to make this possible, Pastor has taken the entire school for music or Bible Class so that the teachers could meet together.  During this time God has opened our hearts and lives to each other.  The staff and parents that participate have the added gifts of growing in love for God and each other.  This time is an essential piece of our school. Through this gathering we are able to “resist the devil and draw near to God”.  We have been soaked in the Psalms, held hands in prayer, have wept with each other and have been directed as parents and teachers by God.  When the Saints gather together, Jesus is among them.  Since our inception, we have done all types of studies and prayed all kinds of prayers, in each his gentle voice leading us.  At Great Commission we have had all types of activities through the years, teacher training courses, parent courses, and prayer days but the community God builds in that steady time on Tuesdays cannot be matched.

For me, God has used that study, prayer and fellowship time to keep me.  When I wanted to give up, or had something to give, the steady flow of our Tuesday time was often my retreat and refreshment. After almost 20 years of ministry, I believe that the time in the Word, prayer and sharing our struggles together each week I are one of the key elements to a healthy staff, school and community.

Join us! Parents are welcomed. We plan to read together Tony Evans’, Kingdom Disciples. Zoom meeting Tuesday’s 1:30 - 3:00. Contact us for Zoom info.
